VfB Stuttgart retains its German international Jamie Leweling despite a concrete offer from AS Roma. The 25-year-old has rejected the move to Italy and wants to stay in Stuttgart.

The Italian Serie A club first submitted a loan offer with an option to buy, which VfB Stuttgart rejected. In a second attempt, AS Roma offered a permanent transfer worth around 35 million euros. Negotiations between the clubs became concrete, but the player himself turned down the Romans, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio. "hat Leweling den Römern abgesagt," Di Marzio confirmed. English club FC Everton is also said to have shown interest in the winger.

Jamie Leweling wants to play European football this season, and VfB Stuttgart can offer him that. The club has started the 2026/27 Bundesliga season with a defeat and sits in 18th place with zero points after one match. The record from one game is 0 wins, 0 draws, and 1 loss. The team has scored one goal and conceded five, resulting in a goal difference of minus four. Despite the poor start, the prospect of international games is decisive for Leweling. He currently sees his sporting development better served with the Swabians.

On the final day of the transfer window, which closes on Tuesday at 20:00, at least two more moves are expected. There is movement regarding 25-year-old right-back Josha Vagnoman towards the Premier League. Hull City has been interested in the German since the start of summer and has submitted an offer of 6.5 million euros. The clubs are generally in agreement, but a final deal is not yet in place.

A departure is imminent for 19-year-old right winger Lazar Jovanovic. Italian club Udinese Calcio is paying approximately 6.5 million euros plus 1.5 million euros in bonuses for the youngster. This transaction is expected to be officially communicated soon. Meanwhile, VfB Stuttgart's injury list is long and includes Dennis Seimen, Leo Sauer, Lorenz Assignon, Luca Jaquez, and Chris Führich.
