VfB Stuttgart has completed a significant transfer by bringing in the young Slovak international wing-back Leo Sauer. The 20-year-old joins from Feyenoord Rotterdam on a long-term contract that runs until 2031, making him one of the club's key players for years to come.
According to media reports, VfB Stuttgart and Feyenoord reached an agreement with an Ablösesumme (transfer fee) in the region of 13 million euros. The move marks a substantial investment by the Swabian club into their future, as Sauer is seen as a player who can develop significantly within the Bundesliga.
Sportvorstand Fabian Wohlgemuth expressed his excitement about the signing: 'Leo has proven his qualities in the Dutch Eredivisie, in the Europa League, and with the Slovak national team. He is not only young but also offers great potential for our club.' Sauer can play on both wings and has already made 44 appearances for Feyenoord, scoring six goals and providing six assists.
Despite interest from other clubs like TSG Hoffenheim and Benfica Lisbon, Sauer chose to join VfB Stuttgart. 'It feels amazing to be part of such an important club,' he said. 'The VfB has a strong reputation, rich tradition, and a huge fanbase, which makes this move even more exciting for me.'
With his signing, VfB Stuttgart is looking to strengthen their attacking options while also securing the services of a promising young talent with international experience.
