VfB Stuttgart boss Alexander Wehrle has called Jürgen Klopp's appointment as Germany manager an important step for German football. However, Wehrle stresses that the coach alone won't bring success. „He alone won't become European or World Champion now, but a functioning team is also needed“, the Stuttgart CEO told RTL/Sky.

Why Wehrle backs Klopp

Wehrle is confident Klopp is the right choice: „You could already sense the positive energy at his presentation“. The VfB boss sees Klopp as the best man for the job, though he emphasizes structural changes are needed at the DFB. „We must forge our own path“, Wehrle says.

Klopp's plans

According to Wehrle, Klopp „has the necessary time to rebuild the team over the next two years“. The Stuttgart CEO points to progress in youth development initiated by Hannes Wolf. „A lot has already happened“, Wehrle says. The team still needs to develop a clear philosophy.

Current VfB Stuttgart status

With 71 goals scored and 49 conceded last season (4th place, 62 points), VfB showed strong offense. Next match: away game vs SC Paderborn 07 on October 10, 2026. Dennis Seimen is currently sidelined.
