VfB Stuttgart block loan move for Josha Vagnoman
VfB Stuttgart have rejected a loan enquiry from Hull City for Josha Vagnoman. The 24-year-old right-back will remain at the club as Stuttgart aim to keep their squad intact ahead of the new season. The rejection comes after Sport Bild linked the player with a move to newly-promoted Premier League side Hull City. A permanent transfer is also considered unlikely at this stage.
Why did VfB Stuttgart reject the loan?
The reason for the rejection is the injury to Lorenz Assignon, who underwent shoulder surgery and is expected to miss several weeks. Vagnoman is therefore needed as cover on the right side of defence. VfB Stuttgart want to keep the squad stable for the upcoming season, especially with Champions League football on the horizon. Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß stressed the need for a very strong squad.
What does this mean for VfB Stuttgart?
Vagnoman's stay strengthens VfB Stuttgart's defence, which conceded 49 goals last season. With 71 goals scored and a record of 18 wins, 8 draws and 8 losses from 34 games, the team finished 4th in the Bundesliga. The next match is on 19 December 2026 against SC Freiburg, who are 7th in the table.
Next steps
VfB Stuttgart will continue to strengthen the squad for the new season. With Vagnoman staying, the defence remains stable while the club awaits the return of Assignon. Vagnoman's contract runs until 2028.
