VfB Stuttgart has unveiled an exclusive luxury travel outfit for its UEFA Champions League campaign. The kit, designed in collaboration with Dsquared2 and Stuttgart store Abseits, was presented on Tuesday.
The team enters this European adventure following a difficult start to the Bundesliga season. Currently, VfB sits in 18th place with 0 points from one match, one loss, and a goal difference of 1:5. The next league fixture is at home against 1. FC Köln on September 4th. Against this backdrop, the new outfit aims to ensure a positive appearance on the European stage.
The idea for the stylish travel wear originated approximately ten months ago at a reunion of the 2007 championship team. The former players suggested designing new blazers. Alex Kläger from VfB's supervisory board supported the plan after a meeting with Winni Klenk. The 63-year-old Stuttgart-based fashion designer has run the Abseits store in the city center for 41 years. Klenk then contacted the luxury label Dsquared2, with whom he has a long-standing customer relationship. The label immediately agreed to collaborate.
Winni Klenk expressed his delight: "Jetzt mit 63 Jahren einmal den VfB auszustatten, ist toll! Der VfB ist mein Herzensverein." The complete set consists of a blazer, T-shirt, polo shirt, cap, shoes, jeans, and a parka. Fans will be able to purchase the limited collection from Friday, August 28. The total cost for the full outfit is over 3000 euros.
While the club dresses up for the Champions League, the team is struggling with a bumpy start in the Bundesliga. The opening defeat and a negative goal difference of 1:5 are a burden. Additionally, several players are sidelined with injuries, including Dan Zagadou, Dennis Seimen, and Leo Sauer. The current injury status can be viewed on our injuries page.
The trip to Milan for the Champions League match will be the first major test under these new circumstances. CEO Alexander Wehrle, 51, emphasized the importance of the partnerships: "Wir freuen uns sehr, dass wir mit DSQUARED2 und Abseits zwei coole Brands bei uns haben, mit denen wir in der Champions League gemeinsam auf Reisen gehen." The club hopes the new look will also give the team a psychological boost.
The coming weeks are key for VfB Stuttgart. Alongside the home game against Köln in the league, the important European trip awaits. In the standings, the club is already three points behind leaders Bayern Munich. To catch up, the defense must become more solid after conceding five goals in one match.
The club's officials are betting on a mix of sporting performance and positive presentation. The expensive travel outfit is a visible sign of their ambitions in the premier club competition. Whether the investment in optics will also translate into points on the pitch will soon become clear. The full squad list and further statistics are available in our squad overview.
