VfB Stuttgart loses talent Olivier to Brøndby
VfB Stuttgart has lost right-back Christopher Olivier to Danish champions Brøndby IF in a transfer deal that benefits both clubs. The 20-year-old Olivier was since months in the air, and now the departure is decided. Brøndby IF has offered Olivier a contract until 2030, which offers a prospect of much playing time in an attractive league.
Why is this transfer important for VfB Stuttgart?
VfB Stuttgart wants to reduce its squad, and Olivier is a talent that no longer finds a place in the team of coach Sebastian Hoeneß. The right-back was since 2022 in the VfB youth performance center and came in four years at the Neckar not once in a professional match. The lack of perspective in the team was the main reason for Olivier's change of heart.
What comes next?
VfB Stuttgart collects for the right-back almost over a million euros. The club secures itself a buy-back option, which allows it to bring Olivier back for around 7.5 million euros. VfB Stuttgart is currently in 4th place in the Bundesliga and has scored 71 goals and conceded 49 goals (+22 goal difference) in the last season. The title race is 27 points behind the leaders Bayern München. In the last match, Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 VfB Stuttgart (2026-05-16), VfB showed a strong performance and is unbeaten in the last week (2W-3D-0L, DDWWD).
Brøndby outshines Schalke and Hannover
Brøndby IF has offered Olivier a contract until 2030 and outshines thus notable competition in the race for the right-back. As BILD reported, Hannover 96 and FC Schalke 04 were also interested in VfB talent. With Hannover, Olivier was even agreed on a transfer. In June, the Lower Saxons offered 700,000 euros for the defender, too little for VfB.
The competition behind Olivier
The competition behind Olivier is simply too great. Josha Vagnoman (25) and Lorenz Assignon (26) have each a starting lineup claim. Recently, Hoeneß in the test games also relied on the convincing Nikolas Nartey (26) as a right-back. For Olivier, only the way to a new club remains, which he now found with Brøndby.
