VfB Stuttgart signs striker Tim van der Leij from Dutch second-division club RKC Waalwijk. The 20-year-old receives a contract until 2030 and is expected to develop step by step to the next level. On Monday, van der Leij arrived in Stuttgart and completed parts of the medical check. On Tuesday, he signed his contract at the VfB office. Van der Leij is Stuttgart's first summer transfer. So far, the VfB has only signed midfielder Grischa Prömel on a free transfer. At VfB, van der Leij is seen as an exciting striker for the future. However, in the short term, he is expected to prove himself in the U21 team. Sports director Christian Gentner says about the new signing: „Tim is a very talented striker with an exciting profile.“ Van der Leij himself says: „For me, it's a great step and a big chance. I'm really looking forward to playing for VfB in the future.“ In the past season, van der Leij scored 17 goals in 38 competitive games. Now he wants to make a breakthrough at VfB and earn a permanent place in the professional squad as soon as possible. Van der Leij is seen by VfB's management as a great talent. However, the Dutchman is expected to prove himself in the U21 team first and then develop step by step to the next level. VfB hopes that van der Leij will soon be able to make an important contribution to the team's success.
