HSV manager Merlin Polzin has cleared Albert Grønbaek for Saturday's Bundesliga home game against VfB Stuttgart. The 25-year-old Dane is back in full training after a muscle injury and represents a serious squad option for Polzin.

"Albert is a serious option for the squad. Training went really well," said the 35-year-old coach. Grønbaek suffered a muscle fibre tear on September 24 while on international duty and subsequently missed last weekend's match against Hoffenheim. He returned to team training in the week leading up to the game.

HSV's injury situation

Alongside Grønbaek, Polzin is also dealing with several absences. Patson Daka is ruled out with a thigh muscle fibre tear, Bakery Jatta has adductor issues and has barely trained this week. Albert Sambi Lokonga is experiencing thigh problems, with a decision on his availability not due until Friday. Polzin described a potential return for the Belgian as a "pinpoint landing". Nicolai Remberg is also unavailable.

Grønbaek is expected to start on the bench and be introduced during the match. Before his injury, he was HSV's most in-form player this season. He scored two goals in the DFB-Pokal against SC Verl and provided two assists in the Bundesliga against Cologne. "You notice that he has a lot of energy that he gives to the team." Polzin said.

VfB Stuttgart in fine form

VfB Stuttgart travel to Hamburg as clear favourites. Sebastian Hoeneß's side sit 11th in the Bundesliga with six points from five games and are in outstanding form. They are on a run of four consecutive wins, including a 3-0 away victory at Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday. A look at the fixtures shows the team's current strength.

Particular focus will be on striker Ermedin Demirović. The 28-year-old was born in Hamburg and came through the HSV youth academy from 2004 to 2014. He has scored five competitive goals this season, but has never scored against his boyhood club in his career. He tops the current goalscorers list for VfB.

The match takes place on Saturday at 15:30 at the Volksparkstadion and will be broadcast on Sky. For VfB Stuttgart, it's a chance to continue their run and establish themselves in the upper mid-table, while HSV hopes for an energy boost from Grønbaek. The team line-ups for both sides will be announced on Saturday afternoon.
